Whiskey Sho(r)t - Japanese Blanton's QuickTaste
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Last Spring, on our Blanton's QuickTaste Sho(r)t, we told you about all the Blanton's expressions sold in Japan that aren't available anywhere else. (See https://whiskeytangent.podbean.com/e/whiskey-short-blantons-quicktaste%e2%84%a2/). But by a stroke of luck, a lounge-mate of ours ended up getting his hands on 4 of them and generously offered to taste them all on air with us.
He also claims to have a sex dungeon, so I think we're going to adopt him.

Bonus Sho(r)t - Red Drum Bourbon QuickTaste (Listener Submission!)
Thursday Nov 26, 2020
Thursday Nov 26, 2020
So, we've been very lucky to receive a bunch of free bottles of whiskey from various distilleries looking to market their product. And we've been happy to comply, with the caveat that if we hate it, we're going to say so. And, honestly? So far, they've all been various degrees of great.
This time, though, a listener sent us a bottle from a local distiller with which he has no affiliation. He just likes the stuff. So... did we like it, too? Well, you're just going to have to listen to find that out. But we talk about sodomy, so, you know, that's the "Bonus" part.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Whiskey Sho(r)t - W.L. Weller Special Reserve QuickTaste
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Ed bought Scott some Weller for his birthday, and Ed's super salty about what he paid for it. In fact, he's not only salty about how expensive and rare Weller is, but also about how expensive and rare ALL the spirits from Buffalo Trace seem to be nowadays—everything from Pappy to Blanton's to Eagle Rare. And, well, he's not wrong. The secondary market may not be killing whiskey, but it sure is frustrating if you like a particular brand, can't find it in your area, and are forced to pay an outrageous price online for something you're just going to piss out tomorrow. Do better, Buffalo Trace.

Whiskey Sho(r)t - Legent QuickTaste + Beam Ambassador Interview!
Thursday Sep 17, 2020
Thursday Sep 17, 2020
Join us and a couple of friends as we taste the latest release from Beam Suntory, their first new brand in almost 30 years. (That's not a typo!) It's a blended bourbon, yes, but with an interesting twist. It's all the same famous Kentucky mashbill spirit, but a portion of it was finished in ex-wine barrels and another portion was finished in ex-sherry barrels, after which it was all blended together with some good ol' Japanese know-how.
Plus, we were lucky enough to score an interview with Senior Brand Ambassador, Adam Harris, and things got downright belligerent! Lol we're kidding. Adam's a great guy, and we had a great chat about some great whiskey. (Now if only Ed and Gabe could get along so well.)

But now he has a chance to get his revenge on both of them at the same time in our first threeway! Wait, no, that came out wrong. It's our first threeway competition, featuring... New questions! New buzz-in system! New scoring penalties! New sound effects! And a new winner? Well, there's just one way to find out! (Um, by clicking "Play" if that wasn't already clear. Whiskey Sho(r)t - Fistful of Bourbon QuickTaste
Thursday Aug 13, 2020
Thursday Aug 13, 2020
Take one venerable Scotch company, add two talented whiskey blenders, give them five completely different tasting bourbons, and what do you get? Well, you get another fine expression in the continuing trend of blending American whiskeys, something once considered to be just about the worst thing you can do. But, really, that's because "a blend" used to be just a cover for truly terrible whiskey. Today, we use Fireball for that. #sorrynotsorry

Whiskey Sho(r)t - The Sexton QuickTaste
Thursday Jul 23, 2020
Thursday Jul 23, 2020
Having been big fans of Irish whiskey for awhile now, we're excited to see the many new distilleries and expressions coming out of Ireland after decades of languishing behind the other countries enjoying the benefits of a resurgent whiskey industry. And The Sexton is one of these new expressions. Not only is the bottle cool as hell (just look at it!), it also has an interesting backstory. But none of that truly matters unless the whiskey itself is actually any good. So... is it? Tune in and find out!

Whiskey Sho(r)t - Widow Jane Decadence QuickTaste
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
Pop quiz, Whiskey Peeps! What does maple syrup, the Brooklyn Bridge, 10-year-old whiskey, and the Magna Carta all have in common? If you need a hint, it has to do with some old abandoned limestone mines located in Upstate New York, but seriously, that's all you're getting. You can find out in just 14 minutes if you just press play. I mean, if we reveal everything in the description, then there's no reason to listen at all. Hmm... maybe we should just do a blog. It would probably be a whole lot easier than dragging out all the equipment, recording an hour of material, editing out our dumb crap, publishing it on our podcast site, etc., etc. Hell, we had to come up with this description, why not just write the entire damn thing out in an article and be done with it?! #randombelligerence

Whiskey Sho(r)t - Whiskey Madness High-End Double-Blind Invitational!
Thursday May 07, 2020
Thursday May 07, 2020
Ok, so we lied. Whiskey Madness 2020's The Final Pour was not, in fact, the final pour. But here we switch up the guest taster, remove the under-$60 restriction, allow ourselves more whiskey to taste, and taste them double-blinded so that nobody knows which whiskey is which. So what does all that mean? It means we drank too much, got a little belligerent with each other, and it all nearly spiraled out of control. Enjoy!

Butthead: "Hey Beavis, is this supposed to be, like, in the future?"
Beavis: "Yeah, the future sucks. Change it."
Butthead: "I'm pretty cool, Beavis. But I can't change the future."
But we can, Beavis. We can.

Whiskey Sho(r)t - Top 10 Whiskeys of the Unwashed NJ Masses
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
A few months ago we debated the merits of Ranker.com's Top 10 Bourbon list. This time, we're getting both more and less specific: Less specific because we're considering all American whiskeys, and more specific because we're considering only the patrons of a single bar in our home state. And if you've been listening to us for any amount of time, you know the one. So, will this list mirror Ranker's Top 10? Or will we, in true Jersey fashion, give the middle finger to the rest of the country and pick our own damn whiskeys? (Haha right, we all know the answer to that.)
